چکیده

PROGRESSIVE eneasement and compression of the retroperitoneal structures by an extensive fibrosing process of uncertain etiology referred to as idiopathic fibrous retroperitonitis was first reported in the English literature in 1948.1 Since that time, more than 100 cases have been reported, and, in the majority, initial or subsequent symptoms were related to the urinary tract as a result of partial or complete ureteral obstruction. It is not uncommon for the aorto-iliac arteries to be embedded within the proliferating fibrous tissue, although isehemic symptoms have not been a conspicuous aspect of the disease.2 3 Several case reports indicate that partial occlusion of the terminal aorta was aln incidental finding at operation4' 5 or necropsy,4' 6 and, in one case, from an aortogram made to assess the renal vasculature. The following case is presented to alert physicians to the possibility that idiopathic fibrous retroperitonitis can be manifested primarily as an aorto-iliac occlusive disease alnd to emphasize the relative ease and safety with which the obstruction can be relieved by the proper surgical measures.

Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome.

Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome is an uncommon cause of intermittent claudication in young athletic persons. A 32 years old soldier presented with 14 months history of intermittent claudication. On the basis of history, physical examination and angiographic findings a diagnosis of popliteal artery entrapment was made. Exploration revealed a fibrous band tightly compressing popliteal artery...

Utilization of oxidative stress biomarkers is important to assess treatment effects on exercise capacity in patients with intermittent claudication.

produced by endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells (SMCs), and macrophages, and they oxidize low-density lipoprotein (LDL) to form oxidized LDL, which is taken up by macrophages to form foam cells. These in turn secrete growth factors that induce SMC migration into the intima, followed by fibrous plaque formation. Subsequent rupture of fibrous plaques leads to thrombus formation and vessel occl...

Intermittent claudication: is a supervised exercise class worth while?

Twenty-one patients (19 men and two women) with disabling exercise-related leg pain attended a physiotherapy department on one afternoon each week for an exercise training programme lasting one month. The clinical diagnosis of intermittent claudication and localisation of the atherosclerotic occlusions were confirmed in all but one case by pulse volume recordings and segmental Doppler systolic ...

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (Ormond's disease): clinical pathologic study of eight cases.

Retroperitoneal fibrosis (RF) was first described by Albarran, a French urologist, in 1905.1 Ormond in 1948 first reported this entity in the English literature.2,3 RF is a relatively unusual condition characterized by a widespread fibrosis, usually occurring in the retroperitoneum.1-3 Also known as Ormond’s disease, sclerosing fibrosis, or sclerosing retroperitonitis, RF is composed of prolife...
